Pantone Colour of the Year 2013

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, December 20th, 2012As a design company, I love how our clients pretty much completely direct the ebb and flow of our work in new directions, often following emerging trends within the wedding industry. I was excited when I had an email from a regular client, Victoria – who is the owner of beautiful children’s gift boutique Dolly & Jack - I have designed stationery and web images for this lovely brand, and was thrilled when Victoria contacted me in a new capacity, as a newly engaged Bride to be! Victoria and her fiancé Sebastiano asked me to design something using the concept of national flora and fauna which represents their heritage (white rose and olive branch for Sebastiano who is half English, half Italian. Eucalyptus and fern for part Australian, part New Zealander Victoria). I love that our stationery means peoples heritage and backgrounds can be reflected in design, and it’s something I have tried to stay true to when planning my own wedding in March to my Nigerian fiancé (eek, only 10 weeks to go!)
So, I digress! Without further ado, here’s what I created for Victoria & Sebastiano.
It’s perhaps simpler, more stripped back and more elegant than some of our previous work – that’s always a challenge for me as a designer, knowing when to reign it in and not keep adding colour, pattern, more fonts etc!
I really love the concept and the soft colour palette, which inspired me to create a mood board to match:
Florals (top left) / Decorated Napkins / Bouquet / Bridesmaids / Jars / Succulents on Napkins / Shoes
I hope you like it!

Woodland wonderland…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, September 11th, 2012We are currently loving the whimsical, woodland trend in weddings at the moment. Gemma, a lovely Bride contacted us and asked us to design some wedding invitations for her & Marc’s woodland inspired wedding with some coral colour accents. This is the magic we made together:
I hope this love story makes you feel as warm and fuzzy inside as it does me. Honestly now girls, how many of us would eat a pickled egg, even in the name of romance? Hats off to you Gemma…
We created this little mood board to set the scene of woodland inspired decor a little:

Beautiful Millinery by Piers Atkinson…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, June 18th, 2012Every now & then, we are lucky enough to meet someone who truly inspires us creatively, and this happened to me while in London this weekend. I had the pleasure of meeting world renowned Milliner Piers Atkinson at his pop up boutique in Covent Garden. With Royal Ascot taking place this week, I thought I’d share a selection of a few creations from various collections. Piers is one of the featured Milliners who’ll be present at Ascot this year, but if like me, you’re not going to be there, you might just have to go swoon over his website instead…

It’s Pimm’s o’clock!
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, June 7th, 2012Hi everyone – I hope you’re having a good week. I’m back in the UK now and although it would have been lovely to hide under the duvet for a day or so while I reacclimatise myself with the good old British summer, reality beckons & the team and I returned from the bank holiday weekend to a VERY full inbox…
It’s going to be a late one tonight but I’m taking a little break from emails and design proofs to bring you some cute ideas for incorporating the classic Pimm’s & Lemonade partnership at your party or wedding…

Love Sweet Love…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, May 14th, 2012Happy Monday! I decided to forego my usual late night work session and instead went to bed early, and got up at 5am instead! I’m feeling very bright & cheery today and wanted to share some yummy inspiration with you…
See what I mean?! I browsed the net this morning for a little bit of sweet loveliness and found these…I love the stripy backdrop in the top photo, which I found here, and the colours in this bottom image are just gorgeous aren’t they?
We recently designed these sweetie jar stickers for Carly & Darren’s big day – they’re lilac and cream to complement the wedding styling – designing them made me hungry! Hope you like them…
Inspired by the 80′s!
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, May 5th, 2012Happy bank holiday weekend to all our UK readers – I hope you enjoy the long weekend and have something nice planned. I shall be mostly swimming in a sea of design proofs and tackling my rather terrifying inbox. Next week is an exciting one for us as our new Design Assistant Matt starts work on Tuesday – HOORAY!!! We have been working all hours for the last few months to fulfil orders in this the height of the wedding season (or at least the stationery season!) so an extra pair of hands certainly won’t go amiss!
But on to today’s blog post where we are feeling positively neon-tastic… Earlier this year, I worked on a bespoke order for a lovely newly-wed Lucy who was planning a 1980′s themed surprise birthday party for her husband and his brother, she wanted 2 large posters which all the guests could sign and then have them framed as a memento. I was delighted to create something and had fun doing my research on the crazy, kind-of-cool, kind-of-cringey decade that was the 80′s:
Seriously now, what’s not to love about those shell-suits? No doubt they’ll be coming back around next season anyway!
So, here’s what I created:
Getting into the spirit a little bit more, I created a ‘Save the Date’ and some inspiration boards to give an idea of how this neon-tastic theme would work in the context of a wedding…
(Above: Table Decorations as seen on Design Sponge, / Amazing cake found on the lovely pages of Style Me Pretty / Save the Date: our own)
I love that this theme brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘vintage’ in the world of weddings! (Above: lovely table decorations and funky bouquet as seen on Style Me Pretty / XO neon letters on sale at Etsy / Pretty Bridesmaid dresses seen on Pinterest / cute tassel decorations seen here.
Hope you like these images – even if the whole 80′s vibe isn’t for you, you kind of have to look upon it fondly don’t you?
Eco inspired design mood board…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Sunday, April 15th, 2012People often ask where design inspiration comes from – sometimes it can be as simple as what’s in the kitchen cupboards… Soon, when I have time, I’d love to create a stationery range with a stripped back design and striking colour combinations such as these.

Sunhine yellow & lime green wedding inspiration:
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, January 28th, 2012Happy Saturday to you all – hope everyone’s having a great weekend and making the most of the crisp and clear winter weather! It was on the news yesterday that we’re to expect a month of ‘Siberian Winter’ soon – (got to love our ever dramatic British media hey?) …Regardless of what the skies are up to, you can count on this blog to bring a bit of brightness (goodness me, that sounds a bit cheesy doesn’t it? Sorry!) – Today we’re bringing you some citrus-inspired wedding sunshine which I felt inclined to share with you after transforming this lovely ‘Save the Date’ magnet from our ‘Bird on a Cup’ range into yellow and lime green for Sarah & Nick, a lucky couple getting married in Portugal…
When Sarah first contacted us about designing the Save the Date in these colours, I wasn’t sure it work initially, as sometimes yellow doesn’t stand out too well against this type of antique paper background – I said I’d give it a go, and am really pleased with the result – the background can indeed carry both colours really well, and the result is so fresh and pretty. Our Save the Date magnets are proving really popular – looking at the photo, would you even guess it’s a magnet? They’re postcard size and printed directly on to magnetic vinyl material which gives a really professional finish, and much more effective than just sticking a bit of magnetic strip on the back.
Anyway, all this yellow and green loveliness got me a little bit inspired and I’ve created a mood board for you, with loads of zesty, fabulous wedding inspiration – don’t you think these details would be perfect for a spring wedding?

I love all these details but some of my favourites would have to be the fabulous lemon slice vases, the mini lemonade jam jars and the beautiful styling of the Bride with the lime green headpiece & yellow shoes…

Vintage-tin-tastic!
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012Hello! Hope everyone’s well today.. In the spirit of keeping up my new years resolution of blogging every day – a little post on one of my little guilty pleasures in life – Vintage Tins. (There are worse guilty pleasures I suppose!). Vintage tins, with their washed out colours and intricate pattern and detail make fantastic decorations at a wedding or in the home, especially so when filled with lovely loosely arranged rustic flowers. Here’s an inspiration board to get you feeling a bit tin-tastic, like me!
Aren’t they beautiful? Over the last 6 months, I’ve been collecting a few of my own - until now, I haven’t bought any online as I’m a bit sad and like the feeling of satisfaction I get when I track one down in a junk shop or at the car boot! (I need to get out more!) I’m hoping to accumulate a big enough collection to lend out to our clients for use at their weddings…
Some of these I’ve found in charity shops or those recycled furniture shops, - 3 tins for £1 was my best deal at a summer car boot - along with all these other vintage treats too…
If you’re searching on ebay – the best option if you need a fair few or don’t much like the ‘buzz’ of thrift shop/boot sale forraging (rock and roll!) then my best tip is to search for ‘old tin’ instead of ‘vintage tins’. The difference being that people who list them as old tins don’t seem to realise that the humble tin has recently staked a claim in wedding trends, so they go for around £2, whereas those listing them as vintage do, and they sell them accordingly for up to £25. Here’s a few of my favourite reasonably priced tins on ebay at the moment. .. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/

Marie Antoinette style wedding inspiration…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, November 15th, 2011I recently had an email from a lovely Bride-to-be, Keira, who is busy planning a beautiful garden party wedding with a hint of Marie Antoinette and a whole lot of loveliness. She asked us to design something especially, to compliment her other ideas and incorporate her colour scheme of midnight blue, silver and pale pink. Of course, I was delighted to oblige and set about designing something to do her ideas justice. Then reality dawned – I realised I couldn’t really elude to the beauty of the Marie Antoinette theme, without including some figures in the style – and there’s one tricky thing about this: I am just no good at illustrating people and figures. It’s as simple as that – I have and probably always will find it really difficult. Still – it’s so essential to challenge yourself as a designer and resist the temptation to stay neatly in your comfort zone. So what’s the verdict? I’m happy to say, although it took some attempts, I’m so thrilled with the design, and love the little silhouette couple with their cheeky, flirty courtship stance. More importantly, the Bride and Groom loved it too – so much so they didn’t request a single amendment be made following the inital proof.
I’ve pieced together this little inspiration board below, to showcase a bit of this lovely, timeless wedding theme, with hues of soft blues, pinks, silver grey and ivory.

Rainy Wedding Mood Board
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, October 6th, 2011As they say, every cloud has a silver lining – in my mind, 2 great things about wet, rainy British weddings are wellies & umbrellas. In case it does rain on your big day, why not be prepared & make sure you have a supply of lovely umbrellas & some funky wellingtons – they’ll make for truly memorable wedding snaps! x
A Bicycle Made for Two…
Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, September 27th, 2011Nothing quite says romance, nostalgia and excitement as much as a newly wed Bride & Groom riding off into the sunset on tandem… I must say, personally I would need a lot of practice as I’ve never been that ‘at one’ with bikes, let alone while wearing a wedding dress! I just love the idea though, and I’m pretty sure it’s a send off that your wedding guests would never forget!
This ‘On Tandem’ Save the Date is a new addition to our range – it feautures a vintage inspired illustration of a tandem, with antique paper background, bunting & a bright rose motif. The corners are hand finished to create a lovely rounded effect and it comes paired with a matching Cerise envelope. Hope you like it!
