Hen/Bachelorette Party Free Printable & New Invitation Design

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Morning all, hope everyone’s well and getting some sunshine this week wherever you are.. I’m writing this from sunny Dubai – we’re here for a week visiting family & having an incredible time. I’m still managing to snatch some moments to catch up with work though and wanted to share this hen / bachelorette party fun with you – given the amount of stationery leaving our studio for summer weddings in the next few months, I’m  guessing many of you are about to embark on the hen weekend – is playing this game on your schedule?

We’ve put together this little quiz for you in our Free Printables Library. The classic game of ‘Mr & Mrs’ is great for hen/stag dos particularly – have a laugh finding out who really knows who better! We’ve designed it as a Microsoft Word document so you can alter the questions and add in names at the top. (You’ll notice our example questions are somewhat less raunchy than you might find on the average hen/stag do, so no doubt some of you will customise it accordingly).

There are loads of different ways to play this game, but what we recommend it that both the Bride & Groom fill out a copy of the quiz, (either a printed version, or electronic to type over – it’s up to you). So for example, on the Bride’s copy, she will complete the pink section with her own answers to the questions, and the blue section should be what she thinks the Groom’s answers would be. Then, during the hen do – get everyone together and read out the questions, score how many the Bride got right about the Groom and vice versa. Whether or not you want to include a forfeit for incorrect answers is entirely up to you!

We’ll also be adding soon some ‘Mr & Mr’ and ‘Mrs & Mrs’ versions so there’ll be one for everyone.

We also recently designed this hen party invitation for Chelena, one of our lovely Brides-to-be – it’s a ‘Sex & the City‘ themed design featuring a pretty cocktail, the New York skyline & some fun dancing figures. Contact us if you’d like to chat about some hen party invitations at £2 per postcard & envelope…

Finally, have you seen our previous feature on the brilliant KNICKERS GAME – perfect for a hen do?

Rustic DIY Loveheart Bunting

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

This quick, easy & cost effective bunting would look great en masse at a wedding reception – perfect for a rustic garden or barn setting…

We made it using garden twine, recycled brown parcel paper & heart shape doilies (which I got for 30 for £1 at Poundland! – everyone loves a bargain!)

To make it you’ll need:

- Twine,
- Brown parcel paper (available at any good stationer)
- Heart Shape Doilies (in various shops – these are 30 for £1 at Poundland).
- Prit-stick or other clear drying glue.
- scissors

1. Cut out a template to use for your paper flags (mine were 30cm x 15cm), and then use it to cut round out as many pieces as you’d like flags.
Fold them all ready to glue on the doilies.

2. Apply glue to the brown paper (not the doily which will tear) and carefully press on a doily in the centre. If the bunting will be seen from all angles, stick a doily on both sides, if only one side will be visible then just stick with that. Prepare all your flags in this way before hanging them on the string.

One by one, glue the flags over the twine – we measured the gap between each one as 8 inches.

Finally, cross your fingers for sunshine – they might not hold up in the rain!

As always, if you give any of our DIY projects a go, we’d love to hear how you get on..

Happy crafting!

Love Sweet Love…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, May 14th, 2012

Happy Monday! I decided to forego my usual late night work session and instead went to bed early, and got up at 5am instead! I’m feeling very bright & cheery today and wanted to share some yummy inspiration with you…

See what I mean?! I browsed the net this morning for a little bit of sweet loveliness and found these…I love the stripy backdrop in the top photo, which I found here, and the colours in this bottom image are just gorgeous aren’t they?

We recently designed these sweetie jar stickers for Carly & Darren’s big day – they’re lilac and cream to complement the wedding styling – designing them made me hungry! Hope you like them…

Catching up…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Sunday, May 13th, 2012

Hi all, it’s Jenny here (now there are a few of us I ought to clarify!) I hope you’re enjoying some sunshine this weekend have lots of nice things planned with a good measure of rest and relaxation thrown in there too! I’m spending the morning catching up on design proofs and this afternoon, we’re taking our little girl for her first pony ride on the beach. (local Devon readers, did you know Wembury Bay Riding School offer a 15 minute pony ride for £5 – can’t beat that!) Actually, strictly speaking it’s her second pony ride – we tried it last year and it was somewhat of a non-starter – she outright refused to sit on the pony, got very upset and ended up breaking her dad’s glasses while clinging on to him for dear life! On top of that, her big hair wouldn’t fit in the helmet. Needless to say, we’re hoping for better luck today…

It’s been a bit of a momentous week for us here – we have been joined full time by Matt, our new Design Assistant (hooray!) and have moved into a temporary new office (thanks to a MASSIVE favour by a family friend) to tide us over while we wait for the legal documents to come through on our new office in Tavistock – we’ll be moving in at the end of the month. I’ll be blogging next week a bit more about the expansion and how it’s all going, as well us updating our ‘About Us’ page of our website – which is long overdue!)

The wedding season has well and truly hit now and we are busier than ever with orders to fulfil for summer weddings – if you’re looking to order stationery for your big day this summer, do feel welcome to get in touch as early as you can to get the ball rolling. I must admit, commitments to clients have meant that I haven’t found a great deal of time to spend blogging and bringing you the usual DIY crafty features etc. This will pick back up shortly, and certainly in the next few weeks, but for now – it might be best to also follow us on our Facebook page where updates are a little more regular…

Have a wonderful weekend, Jenny x

The moments we design for: Cat & James

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, May 7th, 2012

I love love love it when a Bride we’ve been working with takes the time to send photos of the big day – with every couple, we feel a really privileged to play a role in the wedding by designing stationery and making it personal to them – and seeing photos of it having its big moment really is the icing on the cake. Big thanks to Cat & James & ClickClickBang Photography for sharing these beautiful photos with us:

Cat & James commissioned some lovely, bright, floral wedding stationery to complement their big day which was filled to the brim with beautiful personal touches like this little scrabble welcome:

We designed these cute Mr & Mrs. Signs with Thank You on the reverse – great for wedding photos and also guest photo booths…

These beautiful shoes (above) by Irregular Choice truly do make my heart sing…

I designed these cute cake flags for the cake table – lovely cakes by http://www.mrsspendlovescakes.co.uk/

I love this beautiful photo (above) – Cat found her stunning and bright handmade bouquet from a seller on Etsy.

Cat asked me to design this print for the big day which will hopefully provide a lovely memento long after the wedding…

If you’d like to be so kind as to allow us to share photos of our stationery having its big moments – whether it’s at your wedding or any other celebration, we’d love to hear from you. We’ll even say thanks with a 10% gift voucher to be used on a future purchase. Big thanks especially to Cat & James at their photographers at ClickClickBang Photography for sharing these gorgeous and moving photos with us – I hope you find them inspiring x

Inspired by the 80′s!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, May 5th, 2012

Happy bank holiday weekend to all our UK readers – I hope you enjoy the long weekend and have something nice planned. I shall be mostly swimming in a sea of design proofs and tackling my rather terrifying inbox. Next week is an exciting one for us as our new Design Assistant Matt starts work on Tuesday – HOORAY!!! We have been working all hours for the last few months to fulfil orders in this the height of the wedding season (or at least the stationery season!) so an extra pair of hands certainly won’t go amiss!

But on to today’s blog post where we are feeling positively neon-tastic… Earlier this year, I worked on a bespoke order for a lovely newly-wed Lucy who was planning a 1980′s themed surprise birthday party for her husband and his brother, she wanted 2 large posters which all the guests could sign and then have them framed as a memento. I was delighted to create something and had fun doing my research on the crazy, kind-of-cool, kind-of-cringey decade that was the 80′s:

Seriously now, what’s not to love about those shell-suits? No doubt they’ll be coming back around next season anyway!

So, here’s what I created:

Getting into the spirit a little bit more, I created a ‘Save the Date’ and some inspiration boards to give an idea of how this neon-tastic theme would work in the context of a wedding…

(Above: Table Decorations as seen on Design Sponge, / Amazing cake found on the lovely pages of Style Me Pretty /  Save the Date: our own)

I love that this theme brings a whole new meaning to the word ‘vintage’ in the world of weddings! (Above: lovely table decorations and funky bouquet as seen on Style Me Pretty / XO neon letters on sale at Etsy / Pretty Bridesmaid dresses seen on Pinterest / cute tassel decorations seen here.

Hope you like these images – even if the whole 80′s vibe isn’t for you, you kind of have to look upon it fondly don’t you?

‘Countries of the World’ theme children’s party ideas…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

It was our little girl’s third birthday party at the weekend – big thanks to all our friends and family who joined us and made it so special… Unfortunately, I barely remembered to take a single photo of the occasion (isn’t that always the way?!) We had a ‘Countries of the World’ theme for the party and I thought I would take 10 minutes out of the extensive quantity of design proofs I have to get through tonight to bring you a blog about some of the ideas/details we incorporated. The whole concept of party themes has a bit of a marmite effect – some people love them and some people hate them. In this case, I wasn’t actively trying to think of a theme for the party at all, but when we put together our invitation list, the vast and varied heritage of our friends and family really stuck me, and we decided to celebrate it – hence our ‘Countries of the World’ theme was born.

-Paper Airplane competition – this ended up being mainly a game for the dads! Just give anyone who wants to play a sheet of paper (we used airmail handmade paper from Paperchase) and 30 seconds to make their planes. We had two rounds, distance flying and precision flying!

- Mexican paper garlands – these beautiful decorations are really good value and very bright and cheerful.

- World music – there are loads of compilation CDs available but for us, it was an opportunity for my other half to traipse the internet for a good few hours putting together the playlist – any excuse!

- ‘Around the world’ puzzle, it’s so lovely, both for the party and for home.

- (Above) This Travel Doodling & Colouring Book by Usborne made the perfect Pass-the-Parcel treat.

- I collected some hats from far & wide from charity shops, for some reason, they were mostly worn by the grown ups!

- I got these African percussion instruments and foreign children’s costumes from our local Plymouth Play Association – (box of instruments £4 to hire, costumes £1 each for a week).

- (Above) Temisan’s party invitation – very cute and mini as A7 size (half the size of a postcard).-The party girl in her lovely Nigerian outfit- We asked all our friends to bring a dish which worked out really well (big thanks to you all) – there was such a great mixture of food and people really got into the theme, bringing home made sushi, Peruvian crepes and all sorts!

We were so lucky to be given some amazing cupcakes made by aunty-of-the-treehouse Caroline which I can’t wait to share with you soon. Definitiely worthy of their own blog post though so I’ll save those photos for another day… Right now, it’s back to that rather terrifying list of design proofs to get through! x
