You may have noticed that whenever a special time of year comes around, I search the web for some inspiring little treats to get us in the spirit! With Easter in mind, I had fun finding these – hope you like them.

I love these cute little Spring garden cupcakes above!

Bakerella, is the Queen company of cake pops – love these cute bunnies, chicks & sheep! (love them so much, probably couldn’t ever bring myself to eat one!)
Easter Nests by the Vanilla Clouds & Lemon Drops blog – Ah, now here’s a recipe I could manage! These really take me back…
These Easter Bunnies look kind of achievable don’t you think? I might try them with my little one soon…
Continuing with the Easter theme – tomorrow we’ll be adding some cute egg hunt signs and clue cards to our Free Printables Library which you can print from home and use with the little ones… If you would like to join the library in advance so you can have access to them over the weekend, email us at info@inthetreehouse.co.uk with the subject ‘Free Printables Library’ by 3:30pm today. Happy Birthday Matt!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, March 29th, 2012

Matt, the Treehouse Keeper is 30 today!  Wishing you all the best for a great year ahead and lots of exciting times… Since Matt started work here 6 weeks ago, to say it’s been a little bit manic with new orders and enquiries would be an understatement! I whipped up this birthday card for him – this is our adopted mantra for the time being until we sort out some premises and more staff…

Happy Birthday Matt, so excited and happy to have you as part of the team! :-)

DIY Treasure Box Frame for Mothers Day

Posted in: DIY by IN THE TREEHOUSE, In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Feels so good to be blogging today – it’s been a while (something to do with a rather incredible week of sun, sea and relaxation in the Cape Verde Islands - more on that soon!). Anyway, I’ll now be making up for lost time with some exciting features coming up over the next few weeks – including the exquisite wedding photos of Matt (our very own Treehouse Keeper) & Leanne. I can’t wait for him to share them with you via his new blog feature ‘In the He House’.

I am incredibly gutted to have missed out on sharing some ideas for Mothers Day with you (again, blaming my week in the sun & crazy pre-holiday schedule for this!). Still, I will have double the features for next year I suppose. Even though I know the day has passed, I didn’t want it to go unmentioned on the blog – now where on Earth would we be without mums? I don’t know where to start! -

So although it’s a little bit late – to all the brilliant mums out there:

Isn’t it usually our mums who are supposed to dig out the old photo albums and show embarrassing photos to anyone who’ll feign interest? Today there’s a role reversal!
In many ways, my mum has been my biggest inspiration in life – and anyone who is lucky to know her will agree that she’s an incredible person – talented, creative, strong, beautiful (inside & out), kind & so supportive. I literally… don’t think In the Treehouse would have survived its first year if it wasn’t for her – In fact, of the 6,000 odd monthly visitors to our blog, I’m pretty sure a high percentage of ‘you’ is in fact, my lovely mum checking it over and over again. (Goodness knows how the hits will increase when she eventually upgrades the ancient Nokia mobile to an iPhone!)
To celebrate the occasion, I made this ’Treasure Box Frame’ (as I have aptly named it) for my mum on Mothers Day.
The photo is of her own mum and dad, Mr. & Mrs. H. Foley on their wedding day in 1947. It’s the only photo of the day we have and was being safely kept in a drawer somewhere, although never on display. I scanned it in, printed it out & displayed it with some other significant & pretty things in this lovely box frame… The beautiful frame is from The Range for £9.99 and has a lovely cushioned canvas inside so you can simply pin in your treasures. I included a piece of a vintage dress pattern, as my mum’s a fashion designer – this is also why I have added a bit of an old tape measure. There’s a pretty rose corsage, some scrabble tiles which I bought in bulk from ebay, a patterned tin heart, and some pretty ribbons, laces and airmail paper behind. The frame around the photo is from a charity shop – I just removed the backing and glass and glued the empty frame in there.
If you fancy giving this a go, other things you could use are brooches, pearls, old stamps (ebay is good for these), letters, pretty fabric, favourite recipes or song words – the list is endless, but really – anything that feels personal to you/the recipient. The great thing about this particular frame is that the front opens and then closes magnetically, so you can continue to add special things to it long after…
Following on from the DIY treasure box frame, I thought I’d show you the photo in clearer detail – Mr & Mrs Harold & Monica Foley, my Granny and Grandad on their wedding day in 1947. What a truly handsome couple they made. During this time of austerity shortly after WW2, it wasn’t uncommon for a Bride to wear a smart suit such as this one as opposed to a white wedding dress. Although the original photo remains safely tucked away in a drawer for protection, I’m so glad there’s now also a version on display in the box frame to be admired & cherished.
If you are inspired to make one of these – good luck and keep us posted

Off to the seaside…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Hello! Just a super quick post to let you know that it will be quiet on our blog and facebook page this week, as we’re off on our family holiday this afternoon (eek! better start packing!) It’s nearly a year since I began this little journey with In the Treehouse, and I must say – it’s been pretty blooming manic so a week of sunshine, family fun and relaxation are definitely in order. Matt, our new Treehouse Keeper will be taking care of things while I’m away, so do feel welcome to contact him if you need anything… See you in a week! x

Mr & Mrs Signs – New to our Free Printables Library..

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, March 5th, 2012

As regular visitors may know, we recently launched our Free Printables Library which is exclusive to all our clients (from past and present) and our facebook ‘likers’ (of whom I learned today, nearly a third live in Argentina! How wonderfully bizarre – and a great excuse to start learning Spanish perhaps?!). The Free Printables Library will be added to on a regular basis, and will eventually contain a wealth of design PDFs for you to use to your heart’s content at your wedding/celebration, or in your home. Today’s installment is a pair of Mr & Mrs Signs which would be great in some quirky wedding shots and loads of fun for you & your guests to use as photobooth props:

I hope you enjoy printing, making and using these vintage western style Mr & Mrs signs. If you’re a client or facebook ‘liker’ and would like to join the library simply email us at info@inthetreehouse.co.uk with the subject Free Printables Library and we’ll invite you to be a member…  Here’s some I made earlier:

Either get the free PDFs printed straight onto card at your local independent print shop, or print them at home, glue on card, then cut round them and stick some lolly sticks on the reverse.

- Enjoy and let us know how you get on. If you use them at your wedding/party etc, we’d love to see some photos if you’d like to share them…

DIY Crepe Paper Streamer Bunting

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Sunday, March 4th, 2012
We’ve been busy making some cute decorations for my little one’s 3rd birthday party next month… This Crepe Paper Streamer Bunting was a bit of an experiment as I wanted to something we could make together that would be therefore easy (not to mention child friendly!), and as we have a whole hall to decorate, super cheap too. It worked out pretty well…
- Cut Crepe Paper Streamers into strips of around 12cm each in various colours. (each colour costs around 80p).
 - Hang as much string as you need bunting in the garden, (at reachable height and from anything you can – trees, railings, walls etc.)
- One by one, carefully dip the strips of crepe paper in a glue mix of 1 part PVA and 5 parts water and hang over the string.
 - Once it’s dry, snip little triangles to make your paper into flag shapes and hey presto, it’s done!
I have found the best way to store it and keep it safe until the party is to wrap it around a big piece of cardboard and then cover in cling film to protect.
We had fun making this and the whole activity definitely got a certain somebody in the party mood! Here’s a little dance routine I snapped in sequence!…

IN THE HE HOUSE: No. 1 – Nice To Meet You…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Friday, March 2nd, 2012

Happy Friday! Hope everyone has something nice planned for the weekend…. As many of you know, we have a new Treehouse Keeper which, after nearly a year of being pretty much a one woman business, is utter joy. Matt is settling in brilliantly, and thanks to all our new clients for making him feel so welcome. I’m so excited now to be handing the blog reigns over once a week for our new feature ‘In the He House’ – which will be a regular slot written by Matt, for all the guys. Over the coming months, he’ll be featuring loads of great articles for Grooms in particular so stay tuned and ‘like’ us on Facebook for automatic updates or follow Matt on Twitter at @In_the_He_House

Ready? Over to you Matt…

I am Matt Fogarty and I will be 30 this year.  I’m very lucky to live in a beautiful house in the beautiful town of Tavistock, Devon with my beautiful wife, Leanne, whom I married last September.

Having chased the dream through McDonalds, Royal Mail, a cold-calling company I can’t remember the name of, Bandvulc Tyres, CP Plus Car Parks, Orange, Next and Plymouth City Council (in various guises), I appear to have landed in my perfect job!  I was really starting to think I was going to have to go to university.  I now get to work from home, helping people out with their celebration stationery as a Treehouse Keeper at In the Treehouse, even the job title is cool.  Well, it’s cooler than “Clerical Officer”, “Training Squad” or “Car Park Attendant” anyway.

Forgot to mention that I was an Avon lady for 6 months too.

Just before Leanne and I married last year, we had the good fortune and the help of some wonderful relatives to be in a position to buy a house.  So we did.  The sale completed 33 days before the wedding.  Hectic, frantic, tired, stressed and exhausted are all words.  They are words that go some way, and yet at the exact same time, no way to explaining how we both felt at this time.  I love a challenge, as long as it’s not beyond the realms of the slightly-higher-than-average man but getting up at 6am to go to work, getting home at 6pm and then painting, sanding, glossing, cleaning and who knows what else until 11pm, whilst also juggling wedding preparations was, with hindsight, perhaps a little foolhardy.  But I had a hell of a lot of help from a hell of a lot of people so I couldn’t and wouldn’t possibly dream of taking all the credit, only 95% or something like that.

After all the endless trips to B&Q, hard work, pain, blood and tears we got to get married.  It is possibly the most overused cliché in the history of language on this planet but it really was the best day of my, and our, lives.  There’s something so special about having all of your favourite people together in one place and not a day goes by when I don’t wish that I could live in that one day for eternity, it really was absolutely bloody amazing.  I will definitely be blogging more about our wedding, with guest spots and all sorts.  Please look out for next week’s blog when I’ll be making a start on that!

Much love, Matt x

‘Old Hollywood’ Save the Date – a sneak preview!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, March 1st, 2012

Hi – hope you’re all well. Sorry for the lack in blog activity this week – it’s been a bit manic, mainly as I had to make a little emergency trip to London: there’s nothing like an 11 hour round coach journey, a 6 hour wait in London and £250 quid down the drain to teach you not to realise your passport has expired when it’s nearly too late! Anyway, drama over, passport in hand & tickets at the ready, things are getting back to normality here. We’ve also been having some rather major IT issues which, very annoyingly, still do not seem to be resolved – if you’re waiting to hear back from us, there’s a chance we didn’t receive your email so kindly resend or give us a call and we’ll be in touch.

To celebrate the glitz and glam of the Oscars this week, I thought I’d share a sneak preview of a new ‘Old Hollywood’ range which is in progress – it’s the ‘Save the Date’, and was inspired by the romance of old black and white movie posters. Hope you like it – complete range coming sometime over the next few months…
