Guest blog post: Redseven – the hen and stag party specialists…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Friday, February 24th, 2012

Why hello & happy Friday to you all! I hope your brain is feeling a little more intact than mine at the end of the week, and that you have something nice planned for the weekend? Perhaps some of you are having your hen/stag do this weekend? Much like the evolution of wedding culture over the last decade or so, there’s now a massive amount of scope to have a hen/stag do that’s a bit different. A bit more ‘you’. That’s not to say that the tried and tested rowdy nights out, with all manner of naughty blow up things, fancy dress and tequila slammers are a thing of the past - more that there are plenty of other options to consider too. When Jessica at Red7 Leisure contacted me asking if we’d like her to contribute a guest feature on alternative hen party ideas, naturally we snapped her up on the idea! Red7 are a group of Party Experts (sounds like a pretty nice career hey?) who can organise a bespoke package for your hen/stag weekend, which will reflect your personality and the kind of party you want. You’ll have your own dedicated Party Expert, who’ll advise you of the hottest destinations to visit, and what to do while you’re there. They’ll even  do all the hard work booking you and your hen or stag group into a great hotel, get your names on the VIP guest lists for the hottest nightclubs in town, and million other stressful tasks you don’t want landed with. All you have to do is remember to pack your toothbrush! To help spread the cost, they also offer free monthly instalment payments of as little as £6 per month, which will definitely take the pressure off…

Big thanks to Jessica at Red7 who has taken the time to provide this exclusive list of hen party ideas, just for our readers. I hope it gets you excited and inspired to try something new on your own hen weekend…

It’s likely that you’ll be providing wine at your wedding so why not enjoy tasting some wines for your hen party and choose your favourites to have on the big day? It can sometimes be difficult to choose a hen party idea which will appeal to older members of your group such as your mother and mother-in-law however; a wine tasting is a relaxing, fun all rounder.

It’s impossible not to feel happy when you’re dancing, especially to gorgeous Latin music.  Become a true “salsero” learning the bold and beautiful dance that originated from Cuba. It’s both a fun and unique dance to learn and will leave you and the girls feeling utterly uplifted.

Fancy something a little different? It might not be a combination you’d thought of before but that’s what makes it so great! Cupcakes are delicious and who doesn’t like a cocktail?! In this session, you’ll get to decorate cupcakes with all sorts of pretty decorations whilst sipping on a delicious cocktail. Plus, at the end, you’ll get to take away a pretty little box of cakes (if you haven’t eaten them all before you leave!).

Sometimes all you want to do is have a decent catch up with the girls over a cup of the old favourite English brew, tea. With an afternoon to spend purely relaxing, chatting, drinking tea and nibbling on delicious cakes, pastries and sandwiches, there’s really no better combination.

You can’t go wrong with pure relaxation especially before the big day. Book in for a spa day and relax in the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi followed by an Indian head massage or a manicure. You can catch up with the girls too and leave feeling revived and happy.

*************

Big big thanks to Jessica at Red7 Leisure for these great ideas – do hop on over to their website to learn a bit more about what they can do for your stag/hen weekend. Don’t forget to also check out some of the other features on hen parties on this very blog.

A great weekend to all… Don’t forget, the first ever ‘In the He House’ – our new man blog is coming on Monday. x

Preview of new range: ‘Key To My Heart’

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

Hope everyone’s well today and enjoying the week – I must say, things here are all go! Our new Treehouse Keeper, Matt, has been in post for 2 weeks now and is doing an amazing job… I’m working on the existing orders I had before he started, and when they’re all in the post, I will only be taking on bespoke work, taking time to complete and update the website, paying a bit more attention to this little blog, and focusing more on the marketing side of things, which I’m really excited about. It will be lovely to have the time to work on these things, knowing that our lovely clients are being looked after by Matt. Regular readers may be aware that Matt will also be contributing a weekly feature for our blog and facebook page which will be for all the guys out there, and will include loads of great Groom-y, design focused and general man stuff! ‘In the He House’ is going live on Monday so do pop back then…

Anyway, just couldn’t wait to share a quick preview of a new range I’m working on called ‘Key to my Heart’ – I hope you like it! It’s vintage inspired with a changeable colour palette of blue (as seen here), apple green or pink. x

Shrove Tuesday – a recipe for the fluffiest pancakes ever!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Monday, February 20th, 2012

While queuing at the supermarket the other day, I found myself slap bang in front of a whole monstrous shelf, full to the brim of ready-made pancake mix. One step further than ready-made actually – the type you get in a bottle – just add water, shake and hey presto, you have exactly enough for 8 pancakes. After a few baffling moments, I realised it was pancake day/Shrove Tuesday coming up this week. While looking for a recipe to share with you today, I stumbled across this amazing blog, Sips & Spoonfuls. It belongs to Sukaina, a food writer and photographer, who lives with her 2 year old daughter Maryam and husband Akber. The blog, as Sukaina describes it, is “a compilation of generations of recipes, tales of her family, her childhood as well as labours of her photography. It is filled with beautiful memories, beautiful meals and beautiful images.” Indeed it is. Here’s her recipe for pancakes which I hope will give you a taster of her blog and encourage you to go take a peek:

Fluffiest Pancakes Ever:
Ingredients: 225 grms plain flour / 1 tablespoon baking powder / 1 tbs sugar pinch of salt / 2 large eggs, slightly beaten / 300ml milk / 30 gms butter, melted and cooled / butter for frying

Directions: Add the first seven ingredients to a blender and mix until the all ingredients are incorporated. Transfer batter to a jug (this makes it much easier to pour). Add a small knob of butter to a frying pan and pour a small amount of batter. Fry on one side until bubbles start to form on the top side. Flip over and cook the reverse side for less than thirty seconds. Serve with maple syrup.
Note: This recipe yielded 12 pancakes. You may need to add extra milk once the batter is sitting for a while as it may become slightly thick. Just add enough to get the same consistency as you started off with.

Whatever your planning to top your pancakes with, I hope they’re a success and happy pancake day! x

Elaine & Mark’s Pre-Wedding Shoot:

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Sunday, February 19th, 2012
Feeling very privileged to be sharing some photos from a beautiful Pre-Wedding Shoot today – Elaine & Mark were our very first clients when we opened for business in April 2011. They married in September last year at Gate Street Barn in Surrey – see some of their stunning photographs in our album ‘The Moments We Design For’. The moment I first set eyes on the photos from their big day, Benjamin Toms fast became one of my favourite wedding photographers. I just love the depth of colour and sense of atmosphere, and hope you feel as inspired by looking at his work as I do. Here are some beautiful photos from Elaine & Mark’s pre-wedding shoot – swoon away and afterwards, head straight over to Ben’s website to see more of his work…
Big thanks to Elaine & Mark for allowing us to share these gorgeous photos. We’ll be sharing an exclusive Q&A with the awesome Ben of Benjamin Toms Photography in the next few weeks, so watch this space…
If you have an engagement shoot you’d like to submit for us to consider sharing on our blog and facebook page, do get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!

Bus Stop Themed Wedding Stationery:

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Friday, February 10th, 2012

So excited to share these with you – I recently designed this bus stop themed wedding invitation for a couple who met – you guessed it – at the bus stop! When Caroline approached me with the idea, I immediately knew it was right up our street, and couldn’t wait to take on the challenge. Shown here is the invitation front, reverse and matching bus ticket style RSVP:

The colours are inspired by some of the details being planned for the couples big day in April. If you only ever actually read the wording on one of our invitations, let it be this one:

Caroline let me loose with the task of the wording, asking for it to be fun and informal, so I came up with the cute paragraph at the top to set the scene and also reinforce the theme of the stationery a little bit too. Their matching bus ticket style RSVP was hand cut in each corner to achieve this affect:

I hope you like it! …I’ve been working on so many bespoke designs recently, which I look forward to showing you in the coming weeks. Have a great weekend everyone – don’t forget, we’ll be at the Vintage Wedding Fayre at Devonport Guildhall in Plymouth on Sunday – for more details, check out the poster we designed for it… http://tinyurl.com/6pquqk7 If you’re local and planning a wedding, don’t miss it! (and come & say hello while you’re there!) x

Valentines Day: Up-cycled Love Box…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

only 6 days left until Valentine’s Day… will you be giving a gift or card to someone special? Here’s a little idea for a gift which won’t cost you the earth, but has oodles of thought behind it. It’s an ‘Up-cycled Love Box’ filled with vintage treasures..

I covered the lid of my box with some of this lovely Valentines paper currently in store at Paperchase – (just wrap the paper around the lid and secure inside with some invisible scotch tape). If you don’t have a box to recycle you can pick one up at Paperchase too for around £4.

Some ideas of what to put in your up-cycled valentines love box (admittedly, probably for a girl!)

examples of the kind of things you can pick up easily from a charity/vintage shop: romantic novel (can’t beat Jane Austin’s Pride & Prejudice) / Vintage brooch / silk scarf / old postcards / pretty china teacup and saucer / vintage style frame. Some packets of Love Hearts sweets, chocolates etc. would also go down a treat… If you have other ideas for things to fill a love box with, we’d love to hear your comments via our facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-The-Treehouse/147194918669981

Happy Valentines Day! x

Win a £50 gift voucher…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, February 4th, 2012

…As you may be aware our new full time Treehouse Keeper Matt starts work in a week’s time. Given that he’s a newly-wed, (yes – he made it through the immense mine field of wedding planning), as well as an round pretty blooming stylish and ace bloke – he’ll be launching a new weekly blog/facebook feature for all the guys (although interesting for us girls too – to hear it from the man’s perspective!).
Only problem is, the blog still needs a name – which is where you come in… Get your thinking caps and suggest your names over on our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-The-Treehouse/147194918669981#!/photo.php?fbid=298882036834601&set=a.186732094716263.49474.147194918669981&type=1&theater.
We’re looking for something that’s not too wedding specific, but open to all suggestions. Suggesting a name will automatically enter you into the competition – if the winning name was suggested more than once, the prize will go to the first person who wrote it. We’ll be choosing and announcing the winner on Friday 10th February, so get your ideas in by 12 noon that day please. Good luck and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! x
