Suprise Wedding Sneak Preview:

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Sunday, October 30th, 2011

On Saturday morning, we had the rare privilege of setting up all the ‘on-the-day’ stationery for the lovely Fiona & Mark – (we don’t often get the chance to help Brides prepare the wedding venue in this way as the vast majojrity of our clients aren’t Devon-based). It’s such a joy to see the process right through to the end, and get a real feel for the impact of the stationery in context, amongst other lovely details.

Today was extra special, as Fiona & Mark’s guests actually thought they were attending a Farewell Tea Party, in advance of their impending move to Dubai – yes, that’s right – they actually pulled the whole thing off as a complete suprise! I can’t think of a more memorable, romantic start to this new chapter in their life…

Here’s a sneaky peak of the venue as we were setting up:

ABOVE: Fiona & Mark’s wedding was styled as a vintage tea party with hints of purple – we incorporated this into the stationery with an antique paper background, bird cages, vintage keys & hints of airmail postcard details to symbolise their move to Dubai.

ABOVE: We created this table plan using a polkadot charcoal fabric background, a mixture of ribbon, lace & twine in purples & lavenders, vintage style, oversized luggage tags & mini pegs, all set in a beautiful white ornate frame. This is also a really practical way of achieving a pretty table plan, as if worst comes to worst & you have a dramatic change in seating arrangement, all you have to do is get the tags printed again, or if time doesn’t allow for this, turn them over & borrow someone with great handwriting to lend their skills…

ABOVE: This lovely barn conversion in the heart of the Devonshire countryside was the perfect backdrop for Fiona & Mark’s suprise wedding tea party.

ABOVE: Our lovely design apprentice, Lily busy perfecting the stationery on the tables – and lucky for us, she really is a perfectionist! Big thanks to Lily, whose help this morning turned out to be really invaluable.

I know the photographer got some great shots so I won’t post any more for now, in the hope that Fiona & Mark will share some of the official ones with us soon…  Watch this space!

Lovely wedding blooms that needn’t cost the earth…

Happy Friday to all our lovely readers – hope you have something nice planned for this weekend…

A quick blog post today to return to our feature ’5 Greener Ways’ – where we explore  ideas to make your big day that little bit more eco friendly. As you can imagine, the wedding industry puts big environmental pressures on our world, and whether you do one or two things differently in consideration of that, or go the whole hog with an eco-chic celebration – every little helps. Today, it’s all about the flowers and how to make your big day blooming marvelous, while reducing the carbon petal-print:

If you’d like to comment on this, add a tip or two of your own, or share your plans/experience of wedding blooms, join the discussion at http://www.facebook.com/pages/In-The-Treehouse/147194918669981#!/photo.php?fbid=241274395928699&set=a.180262438696562.47638.147194918669981&type=1&theater

Brand New Feature: ‘The moments we design for…’

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Thursday, October 27th, 2011

So, most of my days are spent in my little office, designing all sorts of paper goodness for lovely weddings, birthday parties, birth announcements, bar mitzvahs & other celebrations, and hopefully, the amount of heart and soul that goes into the process comes across in our designs. Without a doubt, one of THE most rewarding parts of the job is when we get to see pictures of our work having its big moment, which brings our whole business to life. If you’d like to send us some images to share on our blog and facebook page, we’ll say thank you by giving you a 10% discount voucher for you/a friend’s next order…

We’re kicking off this brand new feature with some beautiful photos of Antonia & Jonny’s wedding… Big thanks to the Bride and Groom for sharing these lovely images with us all.

Antonia & Jonny chose stationery from our ‘Vintage Bird’ range, seen here in Teal and White to compliment the details of their big day. They gave these cute free drink tickets (above left) to all their guests, which apparently worked well for the bar bill, as many of the guests liked them so much they preferred to buy a drink as opposed to handing in and losing their ticket! Designing Tabasco tags (above right) was a first for me, and a great personal touch for Antonia & Jonny, who are big spice fans.. Shown in the images below are also Antonia & Jonny’s large framed table plan, the Orders of Service & Table Numbers, as well as one of the loveliest, most joyful wedding photos I’ve seen in a long time.

If you’d like to share some images of our stationery having it’s big moment at your celebration, we’d love to hear from you – and to say thanks, we’ll give you a 10% discount off a future order with In the Treehouse. Please email us at info@inthetreehouse.co.uk for more details…

Surely the best birthday present ever?!

A very lucky man received this invitation in the post today… Becky got in touch last month to see if we would adapt our New York wedding invitation and stationery range to create a Christmas time birthday invite & postcard set for Gav – of course, we were delighted to oblige – I just love that we get to play a little role in such a big, romantic gesture… The stationery looked so bright & exciting when it was finished, and I think the quirky mix of primary colour envelopes really set it all off. Hopefully, Gaz & Becky will keep in touch & send us some pics of their trip for our blog. I’ll keep you posted! x

My 2 year old and I made these this morning – (I should point out that she was only responsible for stirring the chocolate, and the icing was all down to me) it’s safe to say I won’t be giving up my day job any time soon! We had a fun & messy time making them though. If you fancy seeing if you can do a better job than me, follow instructions at http://halloweenerrific.co.uk/halloween-food-2/top-5-halloween-cupcakes. DIY Doily Pom Poms!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Saturday, October 15th, 2011

A little DIY project for you today: our take on the tissue paper pom poms which have been a major trend in the wedding industry of late. Using doilies indtead adds that extra touch of femininity and also speeds up the process a lot – These ones took me around 5 minutes each to make. I love Pom Poms as they’re a great high impact, low budget addition to a wedding reception and you can easily tie in the colours to compliment your styling.

Rainy Wedding Mood Board

As they say, every cloud has a silver lining – in my mind, 2 great things about wet, rainy British weddings are wellies & umbrellas.  In case it does rain on your big day, why not be prepared & make sure you have a supply of lovely umbrellas & some funky wellingtons – they’ll make for truly memorable wedding snaps! x

Who says a business review has to look boring?!

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Our little business turned 6 months old on 01.10.11 and so we thought we’d take a little look back at how things have progressed…

As you can see, it’s been pretty busy! Although there have been plenty of hairy moments, tough times and tired evenings I just can’t imagine wanting to do anything else – I absolutely love working with clients, hearing about their celebrations, designing stationery which truly represents them & getting their reaction once they receive it. I also feel so thankful for the creativity that this blog allows me – putting together DIY projects & inspiration boards to inspire Brides-to-be, and giving other great wedding suppliers a platform to showcase their work through our Words of Wisdom feature -  being awarded Wedding Blog of the Week by WEDDING magazine made all the work we put into our blog worthwhile. I’d love to take this opportunity to thank all of you who stop by and take the time to browse the blog, and especially to all of the people who ‘like’ us on facebook - there’s a competition coming your way later in the week, so stay tuned… x

Bespoke party invitations for a very special little one…

Posted in: In the Treehouse Blog on Tuesday, October 4th, 2011

Morning all, hope everyone’s feeling good this Tuesday morning… Here’s a sneaky peak of a bespoke birthday party invitation I designed for little Reuben, son of fabulous vintage wedding planner Tiffany Grant-Riley of http://www.grantrileyweddings.co.uk/. Tiffany is one of the leading ladies of the wedding indtustry and so I was delighted to be asked to design her own little one’s party stationery:

Tiffany wanted something really bright, good fun and memorable and so I incoporated lots of colour, pattern & had a great time with fonts to create the invitation. We provided a mixture of red, blue, green, purple & yellow envelopes to give them that final finsihing touch. Read all about little Reuben’s big birthday bash at http://grantrileyweddings.blogspot.com/2011/10/mini-monsieur-1st-birthday.html
